On site SEO identifies some technical optimizations you should make in place (either fix) on your website to have a better position on Google and, of course, to be indexable properly. You don’t need to be a developer to do that, you should know some coding though, at least to understand better your issue and your potential goals.
You should follow some simple steps to make in place a great SEO marketing plan though. Take it easy and don’t rush things, how to optimise SEO requires focusing on a step by step strategy. Try to think that since you don’t have your website optimised for Google, you can have the best contents but nobody will be able to see them because your on site SEO strategy is not started yet.
On Site SEO is Keywords First
You already have your text content ready to post on your website, and it’s time to think about the meta description now, before posting it, otherwise, Google won’t know what your article/content is about! What is a meta description? It’s a description that appears under your link on Google Search results, it should be from 120 to 158 characters. Create a catchy Call To Action (CTA) in the meta description to bring users to click and land from Google to your website. Make sure to use your focus keyword in the meta description. For example, your business is related to food recipes, your focus keyword is “white bread”, you can have the following:
“Starving for some white bread? Follow our article to improve your stunning taste, making the best bakery products with our recipes!”
The main idea is to have a description that ranks your article on Google and that can make users understand what they can find clicking on your link.
Don’t Forget The H1 Title
Every page of your website needs to have a title, using an H1 heading. That’s useful for Google to understand the main content of your webpage. Be sure to use only one H1 title per page and also to use your focus keyword in your title. Using multiple H1 is against the how to optimise SEO best practices that will penalize your ranking on Google. It’s the opposite for the H2 sub-heading: you can use multiple H2 tags inside your content. They are the titles of your paragraphs!
Density Keywords in Your Article
It’s really important to use the keywords in your content, at least 2/3 times per keyword in your page. Using more than three times would be an old strategy, stuffing keywords was a black-hat SEO strategy that after the release of Penguin, the Google algorithm, has not been used anymore. Who used that, had a stunning visibility before the Google update, because it was a trick. After the release of the new algorithm that strategy brought a drop in every company trend.
Make your content natural, don’t forget it: you are talking to humans. Use keywords without stuffing them!
Don’t make a common mistake: when you are about to post your content, you realize that you did not use the right number of mention per keyword. What are you going to do? Adding your keywords randomly is not one of the best SEO practices, it’s the opposite though. Just fix your content using a natural way, making sentences that make sense for the keywords you are using.
Latent Semantic Indexing Keywords
Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) means long tail keywords, choosing those keywords that bring high traffic and have low competition. You are going to have organic traffic to your website using this strategy in your marketing plan.I suggest using the official Google Keyword Planner, the best tool in my opinion to hit keywords: Google is the main search engine today ... who is going to provide the best statistic on it?! Only Google! Click To Tweet
There are some other tools to search for keywords, provided by Moz for example. Its keywords planner can suggest new opportunities and synonymous, based on your business and topics.
Duplicate Content Can Penalize Your Ranking
When you manage a blog, your audience can reach the same article through categories, tags, homepage. Google identified your content as duplicated. How to optimise SEO to avoid duplicate content? Set your canonical link, telling Google what your main blog post URL is. Don’t copy and paste content from other web pages, and don’t mention the same things in your article several times, that’s not going to be useful for your audience, not only for Google. Try to be original and unique when you create a content for your audience. The idea is to have something that your users cannot find somewhere else.
Following a Human Marketing Concept
SEO is part of marketing and you cannot think about a marketing plan without spending at least one hour a day optimizing that strategy. SEO is giving visibility, is bringing organic traffic to your website, is bringing leads. What do we have to do? You have 3 ideological streets to take: Google, marketing, a match between Google and marketing. Google algorithm is telling us the best practices to follow to have more visibility on the web, setting the elements of our websites properly and pushing us to keep ourself informed about any update. Marketing is telling us to respect consumer needs, creating a product that can fix behaviors issue, having some emotional online contents useful for your potential clients and nice to read. Every marketer should follow a marketing concept, coming from users behavior, and also a Google concept, coming from Google algorithm, to reach and create an audience. Are we able to mix those? Google aim is to make the best experience for his audience, creating the best match for every query, your aim should be to provide the best service for your clients, providing the best contents for users that are searching for the topic you are talking about.
You need to love what you are doing: it will be the right mach between the Google algorithm and your marketing plan!
